PC-Navigo
Fact sheet

PC-Navigo (VP)(for Windows) is a Route Planner for Europe’s inland waterways. It's a "River Information System", designed to facilitate voyage planning. The program contains all the data on the navigable waterways of the European continent.

PC-Navigo ENC is the same program, but extended with an "Inland ECDIS Chart Viewer", with which official standardised navigation charts can be shown. (Click on one of the images to see an enlarged example screen).

The main functions of PC-Navigo VP and PC-Navigo ENC are:

To execute all these tasks in a practical way PC-Navigo contains smart algorithms that can find even the longest and most complicated routes within seconds. A whole range of clever and clear functions are available to guide the user fast and efficiently towards the required data. In the process PC-Navigo calculates all sorts of handy facts, e.g. the amount of engine hours required to reach your destination, the locks where delays will occur, and the location of the nearest fuelling possibility.

All conventional possibilities of the latest Windows versions are applied in PC-Navigo: practical printing-functions, various search-engines and many preference settings allow the user to adapt PC-Navigo fully to his or her own wishes. PC-Navigo can be used as a menu-driven program, but also with wizard-guidance: simple questionnaires that take the user almost literally by the hand. Even the (interactive) survey chart can be used to control the program. Of course routes can be stored and reopened later. It is possible to switch to a different language (Dutch, French, German and English are standard). An unlimited number of ships can be stored in the memory banks. And finally, interactive help screens can be consulted anywhere in the program with a simple touch of the F1-key

ATTENTION: There's a difference between the overview charts that PC-Navigo (VP) shows and the formal nautical charts with which PC-Navigo ENC works. Click here for an explanation! The charts with which PC-Navigo ENC works are NOT part of the software: PC-Navigo ENC is only the tool that can be used to show the official charts on screen. In some countries however, the actual charts are made available free of charge by the competent authorities.

PC-Navigo can look up 4 different types of routes: the fastest (in time), the shortest (in kilometers) the optimal (in engine-hours) and, specially for pleasure boaters, the scenic route. This makes PC-Navigo a fabulous guide for anybody who wants to navigate the European inland waterways.

PC-Navigo can be guided by means of a GPS positioning system. The GPS position can prepare the information on a certain bridge or lock right at the moment when one is approaching it. Moreover the GPS indicates the true speed of the ship.

PC-Navigo exists in two quality levels (VP, the voyage planner, and ENC, the ECDIS Chart Viewer) and seven different versions: "Greater Europe" contains all waterways of Europe including those of Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.“Western Europe” contains the waterways of Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Germany, Switserland, Austria, Czechia and Poland. Then there are single country versions containing the waterways of either the United Kingdom and Ireland * or France or Germany or the Benelux countries. Finally, “Netherlands” contains only the Dutch waterways. Owners of former versions of PC-Navigo can buy updates in order to benefit from a huge price cut. Prices of the various versions are:

* For the 2008 ENC edition, it is emphasized that interested buyers should first check the availability of ENC coverage, which is NOT available in the UK, Ireland, France or Belgium ! We advise against buying an ENC version for those countries, because the ENC functionality would not add anything to the normal Voyage Planning software.

Prices include VAT and mail services. (See also our sales conditions).

PC-Navigo works on every computer that has Windows 2000, NT, XP or Vista as its operating system. The program is sold on CD-ROM and a dongle, complete with fully automatic installation software. Once installed on the hard disk PC-Navigo VPuses about 25 Mb of disk space. For PC-Navigo ENC the chart files must be added to these requirements. Updates of the waterway data are made available at least once a year and the program itself is still in full development.

If you would like even more details of the way PC-Navigo works, please take a look at the text of the comprehensive manual: it explains each and every part of PC-Navigo in detail.
